WELL DONE, KYLE!!!!

Kyle Baird has been doing intensive training with Paula Olivier for the past year. He has done no previous ballet exams but with his natural talent, good ballet physique and intelligent and positive attitude he was able to do his Royal Academy of Dance Intermediate examination in September.

Kyle was awarded 91% for his exam! This is totally spectacular – as we all know what a high standard the RAD has.

Kyle lives with his parents in Wonderboom, North of Pretoria, and had to travel to class via the Gautrain, get off at Centurion, run uphill to the studio approximately 3km further, do classes, run back, catch the train and return home after which he had to do his studies and preparations for his matric.

Kyle went for the Johannesburg Ballet Company auditions and had been informed that he has been accepted for the graduate course in 2015. We are so proud of him!!!

Mr Baird, Kyle’s father, had a life changing open heart operation earlier this year and is still recuperating and has been unable to work.

We are seriously looking for possible sponsorships to help Kyle cope with e.g. his transport for 2015 to the theatre and back, as well as his study fees. Any support will be greatly appreciated and we could arrange for any contributions via the Company.

We wish Kyle a wonderful future of dance and we look forward to seeing him grow and develop as dancer and in so doing fulfilling his dream of becoming a professional dancer.

Burnise Silvius Promoted to Prima Ballerina

Burnise Silvius, magnificent ballerina and principal dancer of the SA Ballet and Mzanzi (now Johannesburg Ballet) was promoted to Prima Ballerina - which is the highest honour any dancer can receive. In SA there has only been Phyllis Spira and Dawn Weller who received this prestigious accreditation. Burnise was a pupil of Paula since the age of 9 years and went straight from school into the State Theatre Ballet. Her wonderful achievement was made public on Friday 22 November 2013 with the opening night of "The Nutcracker" at the State Theatre. Burnise has so much respect and love for her ballet teacher Paula, that she curtsied in deep reverence before Paula on stage after having been promoted. Even the talented dancer needs the correct guidance and mentorship, which she and Paula shared for many years.
